Shot blasting is a mechanical surface treatment that propels abrasive materials at high velocity to clean, descale, or prepare metal surfaces.
Shot blasting is a mechanical surface treatment that propels abrasive materials at high velocity to clean, descale, or prepare metal surfaces. It is essential for removing rust, scale, paint, or other contaminants and is commonly used before painting, plating, or coating to ensure proper adhesion and a high-quality finish.
Our Shot Blasting Capabilities:
• Non-Destructive Surface Preparation:
We use 180–220 grit aluminium oxide in our main blasting booth to prepare surfaces without compromising the integrity of the component. This is ideal prior to specialist surface treatments such as electroless nickel plating.
• Versatile Drive-In Design:
Our drive-in blasting booth accommodates a wide range of part sizes and shapes, making it suitable for large components in applications such as automotive restoration and steelwork reclamation.
• Wide Range of Media Options:
In addition to aluminium oxide, we can blast using heavy steel grit (chilled iron), and we operate a dedicated hand blast cabinet for glass bead or fine oxide blasting. This enables us to tailor the process to meet various surface cleaning and refurbishment requirements.
• Adhesion Promotion:
Shot blasting creates a uniform, roughened surface profile that significantly improves adhesion for subsequent coatings such as paint, metal plating and powder coating.
Benefits of Shot Blasting:
• Efficient and consistent removal of surface contaminants
• Promotes superior adhesion for further coatings and treatments
• Produces a uniform matte finish for improved appearance and consistency
• Enhances fatigue strength and longevity of metal parts
